“Don’t get mad. Get even.“ Terry, I suggest you be one of the first to get to Steven Colbert, and convince him that Substack is the way to go. If nothing else, it allows your voice to be heard like nothing else. And it has been. What a difference a few days makes! 🤗

Where/who can we write to at Paramount to voice our displeasure, discontent, etc. about this decision? Someone/somewhere specific, not general.

Does he have to wait or can he go now and say no thanks to Paramount and start here now while he’s in the spotlight?

I cancelled mine when Bill Owens resigned from "60 Minutes." The ridiculous injustice of it made me so angry I won't go back. I miss my shows, but it's such a small price to pay, and I feel so much better.

I’m probably keeping my subscription until June 1, 2026. This way I support the people who make Stephen Colbert’s show as well as him. I’ll watch FBI since I’m paying for it. Another reason is local news. Then I’m out, Jun. 1, 2026. I live in a tornado area and need to find another source for up to the minute storm coverage.

𝐷𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑤𝑒’𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑝𝑖𝑑?

Yeah, I think they do. Either that or we don't care or we figure we'll just switch to Kimmel or Fallon, because it's just late-night TV ... right?

Meanwhile, Skydance wants Colbert to cool it because they have a multi-million dollar deal to cut with CBS, and if dear Donnie doesn't like it, he will doubtless do something to muck it up. And if someone gets nerfed in the process, well, that's just the cost of doing business.

When a TV show, regardless of its content, gets scrapped in order to ink a business deal, you have to KNOW that there are people out there with WAY too much money and WAY too much influence.

Expand full comment
Teri D's avatar

It enrages me to think that CBS can’t sacrifice this deal for the good of the country! You can’t find a Superman anymore in these United States!

Expand full comment
Troublesh00ter's avatar

The hell of it is that CBS is the home of 60 Minutes, perhaps the best investigative news program in the US. I shudder to think the kind of scrutiny that Scott Pelley or Lesley Stahl would give to that whole business.

Come to think of it, care to bet that they're already digging into that whole deal? I wouldn't bet against that bunch!

Trump THINKS he's mean. He's more of an impotent ass who wants to project strength, when what he really IS showing the world is how pathetically WEAK he is

Trump is a bad joke, which no sane person would laugh at.

Cronkite, Morley Safer, Mike Wallace ... never mind Eric Severied, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, and more respectable newsmen than Trump has ever heard of, let alone watched.

The "Tiffany Network" has tarnished itself more than a little with this dumb-ass move.

>"canceling The Late Show was 'purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.'”

Now corporate America is rubbing our noses in it. They're fully on board with Trump's corrupt regime. If they have to pay a $16 million bribe to Trump to get their $8 billion merger through the regulators, they never had to think twice about paying the bribe. And if they can add a cherry on top by firing a TV host who Trump has tweeted about multiple times, that greases the wheels of the deal even more. There's only us that can help us protect our democracy. Nobody else is coming to save us.

Expand full comment
Bridget Collins's avatar

If we can make that "$8B" merger worth $1B, the next group won't cave in.

Unfortunately, I don't know that we can get enough people to quit CBS and Paramount.

Patagonia has real values. When Trump cut corporate taxes the first time, they channeled all that tax savings into the environment. Recently, the company has shifted so that its only shareholder is the planet. I'm sure there are other companies, so maybe people can add them to the list.

Yes. After the Parkland shooting, Dick's Sporting Goods made a decision on their own not to sell guns anymore. They took some heat from the NRA and MAGA for the decision. It is one reason that when we needed a canoe, my husband and I bought it from Dick's.

And yes, Penzey's is terrific! Bill Penzey has been opposing Donald Trump since before 2016 and has been the target of MAGA boycotts. I was a customer long before that and remain a steadfast one today.
