“Don’t get mad. Get even.“ Terry, I suggest you be one of the first to get to Steven Colbert, and convince him that Substack is the way to go. If nothing else, it allows your voice to be heard like nothing else. And it has been. What a difference a few days makes! 🤗
Many people I talk to are canceling their paramount subscriptions in protest. Sharing this with others will also help bring light to this. Thank you for sticking with us Terry!
I cancelled mine when Bill Owens resigned from "60 Minutes." The ridiculous injustice of it made me so angry I won't go back. I miss my shows, but it's such a small price to pay, and I feel so much better.
I’m probably keeping my subscription until June 1, 2026. This way I support the people who make Stephen Colbert’s show as well as him. I’ll watch FBI since I’m paying for it. Another reason is local news. Then I’m out, Jun. 1, 2026. I live in a tornado area and need to find another source for up to the minute storm coverage.
Yeah, I think they do. Either that or we don't care or we figure we'll just switch to Kimmel or Fallon, because it's just late-night TV ... right?
Meanwhile, Skydance wants Colbert to cool it because they have a multi-million dollar deal to cut with CBS, and if dear Donnie doesn't like it, he will doubtless do something to muck it up. And if someone gets nerfed in the process, well, that's just the cost of doing business.
When a TV show, regardless of its content, gets scrapped in order to ink a business deal, you have to KNOW that there are people out there with WAY too much money and WAY too much influence.
The hell of it is that CBS is the home of 60 Minutes, perhaps the best investigative news program in the US. I shudder to think the kind of scrutiny that Scott Pelley or Lesley Stahl would give to that whole business.
Come to think of it, care to bet that they're already digging into that whole deal? I wouldn't bet against that bunch!
WONDERFUL essay, Terry. (I'm still trying to figure out where to by a poster of the look on your face while the Donald explained to you, in the Oval, what the Declaration of Independence is all about. Seriously. A marketing opportunity. I'd buy a mural. :)
Yes! T said, "it's a declaration of unity and love and respect" letter. I don't know if it was Colbert who said it (forgive me if I'm not attributing it to the right person), "No. It's an 'I hate you and I want a divorce' letter." LOL! Seriously.
Trump THINKS he's mean. He's more of an impotent ass who wants to project strength, when what he really IS showing the world is how pathetically WEAK he is
Trump is a bad joke, which no sane person would laugh at.
Cronkite, Morley Safer, Mike Wallace ... never mind Eric Severied, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, and more respectable newsmen than Trump has ever heard of, let alone watched.
The "Tiffany Network" has tarnished itself more than a little with this dumb-ass move.
>"canceling The Late Show was 'purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.'”
Now corporate America is rubbing our noses in it. They're fully on board with Trump's corrupt regime. If they have to pay a $16 million bribe to Trump to get their $8 billion merger through the regulators, they never had to think twice about paying the bribe. And if they can add a cherry on top by firing a TV host who Trump has tweeted about multiple times, that greases the wheels of the deal even more. There's only us that can help us protect our democracy. Nobody else is coming to save us.
Your posts have truth and integrity. Thank you. Corporations don't seem to realize how little they will matter as more people boycott them and rising costs also reduce consumption of all kinds.
Reprehensible. They have no moral compass. The only thing that they care about is making their grossly engorged bank accounts even larger. Thank you Terry for your honesty and your reporting.
Patagonia has real values. When Trump cut corporate taxes the first time, they channeled all that tax savings into the environment. Recently, the company has shifted so that its only shareholder is the planet. I'm sure there are other companies, so maybe people can add them to the list.
Yes. After the Parkland shooting, Dick's Sporting Goods made a decision on their own not to sell guns anymore. They took some heat from the NRA and MAGA for the decision. It is one reason that when we needed a canoe, my husband and I bought it from Dick's.
And yes, Penzey's is terrific! Bill Penzey has been opposing Donald Trump since before 2016 and has been the target of MAGA boycotts. I was a customer long before that and remain a steadfast one today.

Yes, let's get Stephen on Substack! It has a nice ring to it.
Meidas Touch reached out immediately.
😁
I was so happy to see Meidas immediately step up.
Stephen could do MTN and Substack!
Awesome idea!!
Absolutely!
It’s a sad substitute for tv but it would get me to upgrade to pay. Already did not renew paramount plus
I’m not renewing either. I made up my mind when they paid that ridiculous amount of money.
Meidas Touch has sent Colbert an invitation!
Where/who can we write to at Paramount to voice our displeasure, discontent, etc. about this decision? Someone/somewhere specific, not general.
Does he have to wait or can he go now and say no thanks to Paramount and start here now while he’s in the spotlight?
Let's get Stephen on Substack.
I'd subscribe to him the second he came to Substack!
I'd subscribe to him the second he came to Substack!
I was thinking the same thing, Wendy!
Yes! Rise up! And then when Mr. Colbert is free, please book him on your show! He is a gem!💎
Many people I talk to are canceling their paramount subscriptions in protest. Sharing this with others will also help bring light to this. Thank you for sticking with us Terry!

I cancelled mine the day they announced the "settlement." In the "why" box I put "bent the knee to Trump"
I will be canceling my subscription to Paramount.

It enrages me to think that CBS can’t sacrifice this deal for the good of the country! You can’t find a Superman anymore in these United States!
The hell of it is that CBS is the home of 60 Minutes, perhaps the best investigative news program in the US. I shudder to think the kind of scrutiny that Scott Pelley or Lesley Stahl would give to that whole business.

Read about it. Some rich guy’s son is going to run it.
Larry Ellison's son.

Me too - it was priceless!
I retell that to my friends. Insane and mind-boggling that the President of the U.S. doesn't know what the Declaration of Independence is all about. 🤯
Never a report has been so objectively and subjectively written with elegance, as well with a clear CTA (Call To Action)!
"When in the course of human events...." Yes?
Yes! T said, "it's a declaration of unity and love and respect" letter. I don't know if it was Colbert who said it (forgive me if I'm not attributing it to the right person), "No. It's an 'I hate you and I want a divorce' letter." LOL! Seriously.
That was perfect and said it for so many of us whenever he talks, didn’t it?
Trump knows about the Declaration of Independence like I know how to perform as a concert violinist.
Which is ridiculous. My instrument is piano!
Count me on buying one!
Me…TOO! Planning to boycott Paramount across the board, summer blockbusters, etc.
Same here!!!!
Using your words, “ Trump is mean, but he’s not tough”. We will prevail. Thank you Terry your honest and thought-provoking reporting.
Trump THINKS he's mean. He's more of an impotent ass who wants to project strength, when what he really IS showing the world is how pathetically WEAK he is
Trump is a bad joke, which no sane person would laugh at.
So CBS has canceled Stephan Colbert. Walter Cronkite is rolling in his grave.

If we can make that "$8B" merger worth $1B, the next group won't cave in.
Unfortunately, I don't know that we can get enough people to quit CBS and Paramount.
What's Paramount's crown jewel?
Billy Bob Thornton. Now, there's an idea...
I agree! Can you invite Stephen Colbert on your podcast?
Keep up the good work Terry!
Your posts have truth and integrity. Thank you. Corporations don't seem to realize how little they will matter as more people boycott them and rising costs also reduce consumption of all kinds.
I hope Colbert comes to Substack..
Yes, he will fit right in.
Reprehensible. They have no moral compass. The only thing that they care about is making their grossly engorged bank accounts even larger. Thank you Terry for your honesty and your reporting.
It's about power by way of control. The money follows.
That's all.
The only ones left to care about us are us
Only a handful of corporations have any real values. It’s always just about the $$$.
Hmm, which ones are those? It is all about $$$; that is our "wonderful" (decadent) system unfortunately.
Patagonia has real values. When Trump cut corporate taxes the first time, they channeled all that tax savings into the environment. Recently, the company has shifted so that its only shareholder is the planet. I'm sure there are other companies, so maybe people can add them to the list.
Very few, sadly. I do support Costco. They seem to have some real values.
Dick's Sporting Goods is one. Costco. Penzey's Spices. Errrr....I'm running out of other names.
Try www.goodsuniteus.com to find which companies give monetary donations to which side of the aisle.
Yes. After the Parkland shooting, Dick's Sporting Goods made a decision on their own not to sell guns anymore. They took some heat from the NRA and MAGA for the decision. It is one reason that when we needed a canoe, my husband and I bought it from Dick's.

Thanks for posting the site!
That’s a very helpful site! I use it often.
Absolutely 💯 agree! We will not be silenced!
He'd be a great interview right here...
