A powerful military means nothing if those in command haven't a clue about when and how to use it

The USA has lost every war it has started since 1945. Might does not equal competence and, frankly, you guys are pretty crap at warfare. You are just arrogant bullies and a global menace

Trump will claim victory no matter what...yep the parade

Deborah Petrina's avatar

Of course he will. He always does.

Again, another sane and knowledgeable post that clearly documents the idiots "in charge ' are completely clueless and incompetent. When will MAGA and " Republicans " suffering from Trump Devotion Syndrome finally have the moral courage to do the obvious- stop this madness! They are systematically dismantling our Country and taking innocent people and world economy with it! What does it take to grow a spine!?

Anandi Grackin's avatar

I want to know that too! I can't cognize how they can just stand by.

All the while, he and his family, plus a few friends, made a ton of money. It makes me wonder if that wasn’t the whole point.

Deborah Petrina's avatar

Yep. And others too, as he influences the stock market that benefits his collaborating friends.

Great last sentence!!!

Sad how incompetent Trump and his cabinet have been with the GOP Congress complicit; all making us less safe, while wasting taxpayer funds and raising prices for everything.

Terry, thank you for letting the world know that America truly has a FREE PRESS! Democracy prevails.

Linda R's avatar

Are you bonkers? You are, by every measurable criteria, no longer considered a democracy. The V-Dem institute , the world’s most credible global sources on the health of democratic nations now says this outright. And they stated this a month ago. And they also state that the US is hurtling towards autocracy at a faster rate than Hungary and Turkey. The state of the USA is such that most of the world no longer gives a shit about you in the USA or the nation itself. You have become globally hated. Let’s put this in context. Over the last days the English public have blocked entry and exit to US bases in England. The UK public is campaigning to remove all American bases and the use of RAF bases in Scotland. The Nazi-sympathetic AFD political party in Germany, who have been huge Trump fans, are now demanding all US military bases are closed down and all American personnel removed from Germany. Head to Barcelona and you will see ‘Americans not welcome’ signs, head to Florence and you will see an abundance of anti-American stickers and graffiti telling Americans tgo home and “go to Fk”. This US exception that you’re special is long gone and nobody gives a toss. The rest of the world is now pivoting to to China.

Patriotic American here working to save democracy. Not a word of disagreement. Traveling to UK soon with apologetic shame and dismay that so many of my countrymen and women have fallen into this deep pit of delusion via the shiny illusions of fraud, debauchery and hubris tainted with scandalous perversion of Christian fervor, and their cowardly leaders can't crawl out to do just one right thing.

Anandi Grackin's avatar

All true, but now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their country.

As MIckey Dee's reply also points out there are a lot of Patriot Americans working overtime to save our ship!

Am I the only one that believes all of "this" boils down to manipulating crude oil prices for self profit?

Deborah Petrina's avatar

No, you are not. Anything Trump does is for self profit.

It’s all about the benjamins for the PedoFelon and his complicit comrades…as well, if not more, for him to make the TrumpStein Files vanish from public discourse.

I do not disagree with your analysis of the result, what I disagree with is that Trump had a plan when he started this. The fact that the local US bases were not prepared and thus were bombed to uninhabitable, says he didn’t have a plan. The fact that 3 US planes were shot down at the beginning by Quatar because they didn’t know what was going on says he didn’t have a plan. All evidence from his own posts show that he didn’t have a plan as the reason kept changing day to day or even hour to hour. If anything his post saying - Want oil - was probably the truest goal as it lines his and his cronies pockets, prompted by a goad from his friend in Israel, as that is the only true motivator of Trumps whole life. There was no plan and now you’ve got this bad situation for the whole world, including an Iran that has been even more radicalized from this - people who previously yearned for the freedom of life in the US probably hate the US; and just what could that possibly lead to? The other result you don’t mention is how far the US has slipped in the opinion of the rest of the world, how far the trust the rest of the world may have had has been degraded. It will be a long time before that recovers if it ever does.

Is a war against Iran necessary in the first place? Wouldn't experienced diplomats and negotiators--not Jared Kushner and Witkoff-- have been the more effective way to handle issues with Iran? Trump rushed headlong into attacking Iran without providing a rationale and without consulting Congress or our European allies. What's really terrifying--as we have seen, there are no "adults in the room" able to control Trump and rein him in. He is clearly winging it and making it up as he goes along, and lying nonstop.

Democrazy's avatar

I'm thinking Jared bribed Pakistan with US dollars to pose this farcical 'negotiation' and that Iran is laughing its butt off at us right now as this ceasefire gives them time to retrieve thousands more missiles from their missile cities. under the Zagros and Alborz mountains...and potentially others that intel has yet to identify.

I don't see any possibility of improvement unless the Dems win back the House and Senate in the midterms. He would surely be impeached, and he knows it.

Marliss Desens's avatar

I doubt that Democrats could win enough Senate seats to convict on impeachment. The best strategy for now is to win enough House and Senate seats to control both, so that Trump can be contained.

Celia Leventhal's avatar

Impeachment is too slow, too expensive, and inappropriate in this case.

Marliss Desens's avatar

Agreed. And the 25th Amendment would ultimately require a 2/3 vote of both houses of Congress, and that is not mathematically possible either. So, containment will need to be the strategy.

What if they gave a parade and nobody came? What if they gave a war and nobody came? What if????

Anyway one looks at it, the bottom line is Trump must be removed from office.

A canal from Abu Dhabi to the Omani coast would be 474 miles, the second longest ocean going canal in the world but less than half the length of China's Grand canal from Beijing to Hangzhou. (1104 miles). It could be used by all the oil exporting nations in the gulf except Iran. This might be an effective deterrent to war in the region since Iran depends so heavily on oil exports. And the expense could be shared by all those other nations. The cost of building such a large project would raise the price of oil for a few years, but, once complete, it would reduce the distance tankers had to travel and improve safety, which should reduce the price of oil going forward, for as long as it is needed.

If Iran were allowed to participate in the construction and use of the facility it might also help to defuse tensions in the neighbourhood. And both the canal and the Strait could be easily blockaded from use by Iran if they got frisky in the future.

If such a canal were to be built and a new nuclear deal was struck then the only rogue state in the region would be Israel, which would surely continue to be shunned by the surrounding Arab nations. Although they too could be allowed access to the canal if they should promulgate a two state solution, make reparations, and adhere to it.
