What scares me is how Republicans in Congress seems to have such severe learned helplessness they can't imagine confronting Trump over this disaster. Granted, Rubio has hollowed out the State Department of all the expertise, but the fact Republicans are unable or unwilling to recognize they need to intervene and put competent people in charge of negotiating an end the war with Iran leaves me speechless.
I empathize with your frustration but it shouldn't make the rest of us feel helpless. I believe in the strength we have as people who believe in honesty, integrity, and rule of law. The citizens of Hungary have shown us how to be courageous and stand up to corruption and dictatorship.
I do what I can. I call my elected officials regularly, I'll be making some political donations this year.
But no matter how many times I remind myself (and others) we're in a marathon, not a sprint, knowing that Trump will inflict unimaginable damage on us between now and the time he can be restrained or is no longer in office breaks my heart.

Terry - in regards to the border, is this a place now to want to immigrate to? The border in the southwest is generally what people picture when you say that word. Mexico will have universal healthcare and is adding jobs and infrastructure month by month. What do we have for anyone now? Even if the ICE terrorism ends, we are a mess.

Excellent assessment of Trump -- treats Iran like he's the main player in an episode of "The Apprentice." It's what the base enjoys, but the consequences are TERRIBLE for America's standing in the world.
But also, his complete ignorance AND lack of curiosity about other people, means he treats all other countries as if he can just bend them to his will. And his base is the same. Like, America is complete unto itself, because we're the best. Always.

For decades (mainly since 1979) we have not made a ‘fair’ analysis of Iran. I lived there for several years among the people, fully aware of government overreach, and now see how much nearly every analyst can only view Iran through the lens of ENEMY. Except for our suspicions of pretty real concerns, we only view them as ENEMY that needs to be controlled or subjugated. The JCPOA was a good step in the direction of moving beyond ENEMY to OPPONENT. A respected Opponent.
Peace can only be sought by our reps when we approach the process with a desire to GIVE - not just takeTHEM SOMETHING also
How did we get here? We became complacent, convinced that Congress would be responsible. Voters just didn’t listen to the people we elected - we didn’t care enough to even vote. We thought our little vote was worthless, so why bother? Things would work out. But the GOP-led Congress failed us ; failed America.
