Bari Weiss likes to represent herself as a "free speech warrior:" and in the sense that Elon Musk, too, depicts himself as a "free speech warrior" I suppose she is one, in that she is openly making war on any speech that angers, offends or inconveniences her.

Bari's understanding of the kind of "free speech" the hard right wants from a news network is why the Ellisons hired her to run the show over at CBS in the first place.

Then too, there's ambition. The Ellisons are still negotiating to acquire Warner--hence CNN. I don't doubt that Bari hungers and thirsts at the prospect of being turned loose to do to CNN what she has done to CBS; to become a media queen with unprecedented power over not one but two news outlets.

Like the Ellisons, she's indifferent to the First Amendment and the highest principles of journalism: she's gone to war on "woke," even when "woke" means free, fearless journalism and speech unhindered by corporate considerations: and that makes her a legend in her own mind.

Pretty sure ABC's 'The View' was punished for having Talarico on. One of their cohosts this week is some Christian Nationalist Trump supporter. Yesterday's show was apparently very poorly received by its watchers, including myself.
