It’s not every day the Vice President of the United States attacks you publicly. And these days, with this administration, there can be consequences beyond insults and factual misrepresentations. Obviously.
If you missed it and are curious, here’s J.D. Vance’s response on X to a post I wrote last week. And here’s my correction of his half-truths and attack on the First Amendment.
MAGA runs in a pack. Drawing the ire of Trump and the lieutenants of his regime triggers a swarming social-media attack, an avalanche of vituperation, obscenity, rage, hatred, and a few threatening noises from the more mentally unstable Trumpies. Also, to be fair, there’s some perfectly ordinary political disagreement and criticism—which I genuinely welcome.
Now, I got used to being despised by many people who have never met me a long time ago. So I don’t read most comments on social media (Substack and Instagram excepted; they seem nicer somehow). Johanna is still getting used to all this. One of the things I worry about in our new work together (Table Talk is just the start!) is that she’ll get dragged into the muck of our politics, without the benefit I’ve had of decades of hide-thickening encounters with online trolls. Will we ever see the end of them?
Anyway—there’s lots more than Vance v Terry here.
Johanna goes off on some truly shocking videos of parents behaving badly in kids’ sports. She renders a verdict on the Worst Kids’ Sports Parents.
Also—Bad Bunny dances. You gotta love it.
