I enjoyed the conversation. With respect to Vance's transformation, I see it as entirely opportunistic. He concluded that adopting the opposite position, with respect to MAGA, was a faster track to the goal to which he aspires, the presidency. We've seen quite a lot of that in the last decade. I confess that my views have evolved over the last 50 years, but the person I am today is not 180 degrees from the person I was 50 years ago.
I find myself wondering how I would react to circumstances being experienced by the folks in Minneapolis, with the 1st Amendment routinely ignored by men who have been granted federal authority and promised immunity (one way or another). I find it infuriating and I suspect I would feel obligated to actively and visually express my outrage. I don't think it would go well...and that makes me so glad that I live on an island in SE Alaska.
The Clinton's wrote a letter. It should be widely distributed. It is my understanding that they want to give evidence in a public way, and not behind closed doors.

Loved this post, which I watched live. Makes me wonder if the social virus spreading MAGA isn't infecting a lot more than politics--into kids' sports, and indeed, everywhere. Wish I could share your balanced view of J.D. Vance. But to me, he is far more negative than positive. I've always believed that we are more interconnected as humans than we realize--effectively, part of a larger organism, humanity, which must grapple with maladies in one extremity that produce symptoms everywhere else, and which occasionally overwhelm the whole system.
