A good interview. I guess our impressions are from our experiences. Last night I was at a play on South Michigan Av. There were peaceful protests on the east side of Michigan Av but when we got out at 8:30 there was no one around. We walked down to North Michigan Av and saw only a few people. Our only problem is the ICE goons who treat peaceful protesters as criminals, sometimes worse. Picking up innocent people who are filming them etc. I can see what could happen if they send ICE into many cities. Shameful
The ICE is now the Klan, just without the white sheets and pillow cases with eye slits cut in. We have now gone back into the ignorance of hatred and bigotry, and nothing will change with the demented racism running dark and dank and rapid through our halls of democracy!
Growing up, my mom said "you'll never realize what you have until you lose it." We are seeing it happen before our eyes. We never, ever, thought this was going to happen. But, we are. The day this all ends, whenever that happens, every ICE agent, every CBP agent, every other federal agent that participated, will say "I was following orders." We know from history, that is not a criminal or civil defense.
Rep. Ramirez really tells it like it is. We've perhaps been a bit too complacent in our country, and even now I talk to people who don't believe any of this could happen here. But it IS happening, just as the Heritage Foundation planned it. I live near Portland OR, so we will see how it plays out here. "ICE Barbie" came to town and has lied about what she saw here. It all makes me so angry, but I know we have to keep our cool and "not take the bait."
Thank you, Terry! To your question -- The first dark sign came early: he effectively dismissed the group working on the 250th anniversary celebration. P2025 and the actions of ICE seem more consistent with establishing "plenary power" (through military means if necessary) than with our cherished democracy.
Alderperson Fuentes embodies what is good about our country. I am in awe of her ability to remain calm and peaceful during that insane interaction. My son, a recent college graduate in Chicago, just moved out to Logan Square a few months ago and it’s a wonderfully diverse, beautiful and peaceful area. It, and Humboldt Park have seen great improvements in the past decade, and part of the reason why is good leadership like that of Alderperson Fuentes. @Terry, thank you for interviews like this one. I’m so concerned about our country- that we will turn some kind of corner from which we cannot recover. Keep fighting the good fight and know we’re trying to do the same out here in Middle America.
