California's AG on a big win, and the path ahead

Attorney General Rob Bonta on the fight to stop Trump's troop deployments to US cities

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is on the front lines of several of the big court battles over authoritarianism in our country. And today was a big day for him, for Los Angeles, for California, and for the country.

This morning, a federal judge handed down a ruling that bars the Trump administration from continuing to use troops to enforce or execute civilian laws in Los Angeles. This afternoon, AG Bonta brought another case against Trump, this one to block the extension of the original deployment of 300 National Guard in LA troops on the shaky grounds that they were needed to stop rioting there—a deployment upheld by an appeals court. The extension ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth means those troops would be on the ground in Los Angeles…on Election Day.
