I would like to know what happened to the millions of dollars of donations that were given to Trump by corporations for the ballroom. Are they lining Trump’s pockets? Not one dollar of taxpayer dollars should be used for a ballroom. The ballroom should not be built.

Yeeessss! The interview on which I have been waiting!! 😃 Both of you are brilliant in your own ways. This was one of the best shows this week of all Substacks. Enjoyed seeing you two swap ideas and enjoy a few laughs together! Awesome! Y'all should do it again soon!!

Regarding Jimmy Kimmel and his questionable statement, we may not think it is in good taste, but it is very typical of that type of show. Those who watch those comedians have heard those types of statements for years, including those about other presidents and their spouses. So no, Kimmel should not lose his job over this. Trump says horrible things about people every day. But he is extremely thin skinned, as is Melania, and immediately wants to get even if he feels like someone has insulted him. Get over it.

Exactly. We need comedians to mock the high and mighty. And everybody had their own ideas about what’s funny. That’s good! Trump and his henchmen trying to silence Kimmel—that’s un-American.

They just changed the conversation re faults re security

I am not just blowing smoke here, but this was a great post. Felt like I was in the local pub with these guys after the filing deadline, (I know, showing my age) sharing stories and speaking reality to current events. Thanks Terry.

I think the reason that the general public were suspicious of the authenticity of the assassination attempt was in a large part, the timing of DJT at his briefing and him immediately claiming they needed the ball room. I also don't think it was staged, but you have to admit that it certainly made it seem that way. Not only did DJT bring it up within the first few minutes of his briefing, but a ton of his influencers, also started posting it out on the social media sites. That is what's making people very suspicious.

Exactly. Also, with Butler his ear does not look like it was grazed by a bullet. I hate to say it was stage when there was loss of life, but within a week he had his “bandage” off and his ear wasn’t even scabbed. As well as all the lies that come out of this administration, it is hard to believe anything.

Great show watching two trustworthy journalists converse about the state of our first amendment and news!!

Great conversation. How I miss newspeople of integrity and honesty. But I do find more and more have moved to Substack. So be it. We do have this forum. And it gives me hope for the continuity of a free press in the US.

Not a staged shooting but , a stage set to lure a potential shooter ? Quite possibly I think.

There is no trust at any level and this administration made that worse with the misinformation, the constant twisting of the facts, the lack of accountability and the criminalization of people’s actions simply because they have different views. Then, using religion as a weapon makes everything more dangerous.

My critical thinking says I do not put ANYTHING past this regime. They could pay anyone to do anything they want. They don't even know who shot the security person. As much as I respect both of you.....we are living in a different world than you started working.

It seems no small coincidence that the ballroom conversation that mushroomed instantly in the chaos of the attempted shooting, has the added benefit of distracting us all from the Epstein conversation

I agree with Jim's view on how to navigate a dinner that intends to celebrate the Free Press with whether a president intent on destroying it ought to be invited.

lets face it, trump was going to be a total flop (i.e. no Obama).

Here is what i dont believe:I'll never believe that trump had put pen to paper to even write a speech, much less a couple good jokes.

This humorless vocabulary of an 8 year old writing a speech?? LOL, please help me up

Since I last posted a comment, I have listened to numerous substacks and the overwhelming point is that social comments support the idea that it was staged.

How could this many observers be wrong? We don't live in DC and know all the ins and outs, but we see with our own eyes what happened. Could it possible the bubble resides in the media rather than the public? Frankly, the WHCA dinner is just another awards show where glamour of the 1% is paraded. It is a worthless contributor to journalism which has lost all credibility just like our three branches of government. We the American people have been denied true analytical scrutiny and that is why we need J. Kimmel and Stephen. One question why was Jimmy's joke re: Melania in bad taste when lying caroline speaking of "shots" were considered a joke. You judge a comedian whose job it is to make us laugh, but the joke from the lying regime is overlooked. Stand back and stop looking at instutions that have failed the citizens as paragons of government. The dumbing down of America is depressing. Norah O'donnell (?) did not do a good job. How is sitting there being another insulted doing a good job? Both sides-ism doesn't work at CNN or substacks.

in my view, the focus ought to be on why this is happening not on some quasi conspiracy chatter. We know from these perpetrators own words "spewing hate" and "pedophile, corrupt, traitor". What drove the guy in MN?? Isn't there a common denominator that is quite obvious??

orange guy joked about his age during the dinner w/the king but I guess that's ok. Jimmy Kimmel caught that

And the WH reporters should be backing each other up. If he insults one and doesn’t answer their question, the next reporter should repeat that question!

Stupidest justification ever. it can't be ok to attend a UFC fight at MSG, and declare the need for a golden ballroom to keep demented donnie safe.
